The Monroe Historical Society hosts a variety of events during the course of the year.
Below is a listing of our upcoming events.

In celebration of our 60 years of preserving and protecting Monroe’s history

(1959-2019) the Monroe Historical Society in collaboration with

The Monroe Senior Center are proud to present

an historic and educational centennial celebration (1919-2019) of the

Stevenson Dam ~ its hydroelectric power plant ~ our beautiful Lake Zoar

The program will be presented by celebrated local historian and Stevenson Dam expert John Babina who is a life member of the Monroe Historical Society. John will present the rich history of the dam’s original planning, its state of the art construction methods and the effects of the project on our local communities, both here in Monroe, Oxford and the many towns that line Lake Zoar.

All of this history is beautifully complimented by an astonishing collection of period photos which you will surely not want to miss. We guarantee you will never view these historic sites the same after experiencing this fascinating look into our town’s historic past from a century ago.
